The Nintendo Switch seems to receive new titles and ports to the system every day. This week, Marvelous Europe and XSEED Games have added Freedom Planet to the system’s growing roster of games. Follow a “spunky dragon girl and her friends against hostile foreign powers and alien attack forces” through more than a dozen massive, non-linear stages.
The game draws heavy inspiration from 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games, and layers it with more story and different gameplay mechanics, such as special fighting abilities. Players will choose as one of three characters, each with their own unique gameplay style to tackle challenges in unique ways.
Similar to Sonic games, the game relies on momentum-based platforming mixed with large levels to “reward players with a seemingly bottomless barrage of secrets, alternate paths, hidden collectables, and speed run opportunities.” Check out the gallery below to get a sense of the gorgeous pixel art used in the game.
