During Nintendo’s news-heavy Nintendo Direct this week, they revealed another Wii U port will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.

The game is a fairly straightforward port of the original game, and also includes the original DLC, New Super Luigi U, right in the same package. Nintendo proudly stated this is a total of 164 levels for people to dig into.

In addition to getting the complete package, the Deluxe edition also includes two new characters: Nabbit and Toadette. Nabbit is essentially ‘easy’ mode as he is able to pass obstacles without taking damage. Meanwhile, when Toadette snags the new Super Crown, she will turn into Peachette, who is able to double jump and float to safety.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe will launch January 11, 2019 on Nintendo Switch.

After playing the original years ago, I’m not really interested in this announcement, but I am certainly excited for more people to get to experience the latest 2D Mario game. Will you be picking it up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Be sure to keep checking back at our Nintendo Direct Portal over the next few days as we continue to cover all the great announcements from today’s event right here on The Gaming Chicken.

  1. Interesting that they introduced a character that doesn’t take damage — sounds like they’re trying to make it so anyone in the family can play the game together, that’s kinda cool!
